Mental Health Ambassadors

Our Mental Health Ambassadors help to increase our schools' capacity to prevent the onset of mental health problems. Through the delivery of the programme, the children are trained in a variety of wellbeing approaches and strategies for providing peer support. These include listening, communication, being supportive and sharing wellbeing strategies to help peers. They work alongside our Caritas Social Worker and Family Support Worker in delivering the Anna Freud Mentally Healthy Schools Schedule.
At our school, our Mental Health Ambassadors play an important role in promoting positive wellbeing and supporting a caring and inclusive school environment. These pupils act as role models for their peers and help to encourage open conversations about feelings, friendships, and emotional wellbeing across the school.
Our ambassadors help remind pupils that it is okay to talk about their feelings and that support is always available. They are friendly faces that other children can approach if they are feeling worried, upset, or unsure. While ambassadors do not solve problems themselves, they help guide pupils towards speaking with a trusted adult such as a teacher or member of staff.
The ambassadors also help raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing throughout the school. They help share positive messages about kindness, resilience, and looking after ourselves and others.
In addition, our Mental Health Ambassadors work alongside staff to share ideas from pupils about how the school can continue to support everyone’s wellbeing. By encouraging kindness, inclusion, and respect, they help ensure that our school remains a place where every child feels safe, supported, and valued.
